The following is an overview of Seminars and Clincs offered by DD's Dog Training:

Two-Day Obedience Seminars

The purpose of this seminar is to provide a unique opportunity to hear and see one of the top obedience instructors in the country give an overview of her training methodology from puppy hood through Utility. Dee Dee's methods and "training rules" are based on development and learning stages common to all dogs. They are appropriate to dogs of any breed or age.

Seminar Outline:

  • First day covers Puppy through Novice
  • Second day covers Open through Utility
  • This is an interactive seminar, so questions are always welcome and encouraged
  • This is not a "working" seminar, however dogs will be used for demonstrations and problem solving

One-Day and Two-day Obedience Clinics

The purpose of this clinic is to do more in-depth problem solving than can be accomplished at a non-working seminar. The clinic format gives Dee Dee time to help find the missing links in training and recommend and demonstrate how best to replace the missing links.

Dee Dee works with each dog/handler team, one team at a time. In addition to helping each team, this format provides the other handlers and auditors the opportunity to see Dee Dee work with each team and see how she solve problems.

This clinic is recommended for dogs that have had some training.

Clinic Outline:

  • Dee Dee provides brief overview of her training methodology
  • Dee Dee works with each dog/handler team, usually starting with puppies and Novice dogs, followed by Open dogs, then Utility, UDX and OTCH dogs
  • Dee Dee works with each team to solve training problems, and at the same time, responds to related questions from other handlers and auditors

Rally Obedience Clinics

We offer a series of half-day and full-day Rally Obedience Clinics:

Introduction to Rally Obedience

The purpose of this clinic is to introduce handlers and their dogs to the newest AKC competition sport, Rally Obedience, and to provide them with the information and experience necessary to successfully navigate any Novice level course. We provide an overview of each of 31 signs used in Rally Novice, including a demonstration of how each sign/station is performed.

Additionally, we provide general handling and course navigation guidelines which show the handler how to successfully navigate any Novice level course. This includes how to motivate and control your dog on the course, knowing when to repeat a station, etc.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to walk through a Novice Rally course using copies of the course map just like at a real trial, then each dog/handler team will be given a run-through. We will be available to answer questions and provide assistance during the walk-through and run-throughs

This clinic is geared to handlers and dogs of all levels from very beginners to those with experience in other AKC competition sports, and even those with experience in Rally Obedience who want to learn more about this new and growing sport.

Articles written following a couple of past Obedience seminars:

Published in NORCAL Golden Retriever Club newsletter "Golden Notes", December 2004, Obedience VP update, Obedience Seminar: By Louise Bryan

April 2005 two-day obedience seminar hosted by the NORCAL Golden Retriever Club

"In early April 2005, NORCAL GRC hosted a profitable two day obedience seminar presented by club member Dee Dee Anderson. The seminar was held in Redwood City, CA. Over 50 participants attended, including a participant from Alaska and one from Vancouver, B.C.

The first day of the seminar focused on puppy training through Novice, Dee Dee demonstrated how she begins to build a foundation with puppies when they are eight weeks old. From there, Dee Dee used a variety of breeds to demonstrate her training and motivational methods. The participants asked excellent questions, to which Dee Dee gave thorough responses.

On day two Dee Dee started with off leash heeling and continued through all of the open and utility exercises. Dee Dee provided a detailed demonstration of each step of the force fetch method that she uses as well as her method of teaching the scent articles. The participants posed a variety of training problems that Dee Dee addressed, including how to handle problems particular to small breeds, etc.

Judging from the feedback that I received at the conclusion of the two day seminar, it was a huge success - providing all of the participants with very concrete dog training information."

Excerpt from article published in "Collie Expressions", November 2004, Obediently Yours, Dee Dee Anderson Seminar: Part I - Puppywork: By Diane Hemphill & Judy Cummings

May 2004 two-day obedience seminar hosted by the Deep Peninsula Dog Training Club

"We had the opportunity to attend a two-day obedience seminar given by one of our Northern California gurus, Dee Dee Anderson, who has put OTCH titles on several of her own dogs. Dee Dee is known for her highly enthusiastic Golden Retrievers, which she breeds occasionally, but has titled other breeds as well.

Although she specializes in teaching for obedience competition, she has a large clientele of pet people, too. In addition to obedience, Dee Dee does tracking, agility, and field work, and teaches agility classes.

Her busy teaching schedule and her family, consisting of husband and two teenage sons, don't leave a lot of time for training her own dogs, but it is obvious from her trial results that the time she spends is sufficient. Many of her students have also achieved high levels of obedience success, and all of them are a credit to their teacher in presenting lively, happy, well-schooled dogs in the ring."
